What does a person do who loves 80s pop, listens almost exclusively to 1970s Elvis records, and spends the bulk of his time trying to avoid getting a real job? This is the question Mike Audet keeps asking. Currently, he writes and records songs.
Within a year of picking up the guitar, Mike Audet started writing his first album with his heavy metal band, Overly Addictive. While most 15 year olds were out partying and having sex, Mike was at band practice, recording, or fearing for his life while performing at a Satan’s Choice corn roast. Though the friend who arranged the gig was beaten up and had his guitar stolen, Mike got out unscathed, despite refusing repeated requests from the crowd to play “Born to be Wild”.
Next for Mike was the band 29 Pictures, described by the Toronto Sun as “remarkably sure footed” and “one to keep an eye on”.
In 1998, the band released their first and only CD. The CD was well reviewed, with Indie-Music.com saying, “the overall songwriting is also one of my ‘highs’ – it’s lean, tight, and very polished.”. The review also states that it’s shame the band broke up because, “29 Pictures is a band that we could definitely hear on the radio in a few years.”
Dave Magnus of the The Indie-Zone writes, “As soon as I popped “one” in to the CD player, I immediately took notice of the opening track, “Falling”; the chorus in particular boast great harmonizing, energy and feeling”. He goes on to write that the CD is “definitely worth a peek… with 15 tracks, many of which are very good, it’s hard not to like it.”
Since the demise of 29 Pictures, Mike has been writing, recording, and performing, sometimes with a full band, and sometimes on his own. He can be seen performing around Toronto, and his music can be found on his web site (www.mikeaudet.com) and at MP3.com, where he is described by Songwriter Radio as “a talented Canadian songwriter”.
